Colchester United have been beaten 3-1 at Stevenage.
The sides were level at the break, with Sammie Szmodics' early tap in cancelled out by Kurtis Guthrie's diving header three minutes before half time.
Second half goals from Kennedy and sub Sonupe then took the game away from the U's and ended their unbeaten away record.
The wet pitch was conducive to fast flowing football, and the U’s took advantage immediately by going ahead after ninety seconds.
The ball was moved from right to left, and Courtney Senior found Ryan Jackson on the overlap.
Jackson mishit his shot across the six yard box, but Szmodics was there to sidefoot his shot into the net from close range to open the scoring.
The visitors then dominated proceedings, and Szmodics had a volley blocked after he was found by a Luke Norris cross from the right.
The roles were reversed on ten minutes, when Norris shot just over from a neat pass from Szmodics.
Two minutes later, Norris struck a powerful shot in to wall, and the home side were being pushed back without much chance to attack the U’s.
Gradually, they did get a foothold, and on thirty eight minutes, former U’s striker Guthrie gave a warning, as his strike was deflected narrowly wide.
He got the goal he was obviously looking for three minutes before half time, stooping to head home after Cuthbert won a far post header from a corner.
He put his finger to his lips to taunt the U’s fans behind the goal, before going to his own fans to rightfully celebrate the equaliser.
When he once again gestured to the U’s fans, he was swiftly booked by the referee.
The home side had finished the first half on the front foot, and continued that at the start of the second.
Within a minute, Dillon Barnes had to dive to his left to save a volley from sub Emmanuel Sonupe and then Steve Seddon shot wide when well placed.
They came even closer on fifty eight minutes, when Guthrie hit the post and then Sonupe blasted over when he should have at least tested Barnes.
On fifty seven minutes, the U’s had their first effort at goal but Luke Norris’ powerful shot was palmed away by Seny Dieng in the home goal.
That was a rare occasion that the home keeper was called into action, and the play returned to the other end.
Seddon had another shot blocked for the hosts, and Danny Newton then just failed to connect at the far post after Guthrie headed back into the danger area.
Brennan Dickenson was introduced for Courtney Senior on seventy nine minutes, and he was involved in the pivotal moment in the game a minute later.
He was deemed to have committed a foul inside the U’s box, although it was later seen to be outside, and the referee pointed to the spot.
Kennedy calmly struck his penalty into the top corner, and the hosts were 2-1 ahead.
Two very quickly became three, as Guthrie rolled a pass into Sonupe and he beat Barnes with the left foot shot.
Aaron Collins came on for Szmodics with three minutes remaining of the ninety, but the home side prevented him and the U’s getting back in the game in the late stages.
A couple of shots went over the home crossbar, but Dieng wasn’t tested in the nine minutes of injury time played.
It had looked so good for the U’s in the early stages, but credit must go to Stevenage for their part in ending the U’s unbeaten away record.
