Steve Ball's side preparing for trip to the Mazuma Stadium

22 January 2021

Colchester United will travel to the Mazuma Stadium for their first away trip of the season this weekend, with play-off chasing Morecambe the opponents for Steve Ball's side.

The Shrimps have already proved that they mean business in Sky Bet League Two this season, being the only side to take three points from the JobServe Community Stadium in the league.

Back in December, John O'Sullivan and Yann Songo'o were on target, overcoming the U's goal from Michael Folivi to ensure that they were the winners in the first meeting of the two teams this season. And having moved themselves even closer to the top seven, the U's will want to get one over on their opponents, and take points from what they will see as a direct rival for the rest of the season.

Heading into the game, it's one that the U's Head Coach Steve Ball wants to take full points from.

"We have had some good sessions this week linked to how we go about it, and we are prepared for a tough battle, but it's one we feel we can do well in. " - Steve Ball

"Morecambe have a really good offensive threat, with Stockton, Mendes Gomes, Wildig and Phillips, they are all good players at this level. I watched them on Tuesday night, and it showed it was a really tough place to go.

"It will be a heavy pitch up in Morecambe, and we have had to be a bit delicate after the pitch from last weekend, but we have good processes in place to keep players fresh and ready to go."
