A selected group of children at Cann Hall Primary School were treated to a special visitor recently as part of the Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) programmes. Children were selected for a one off ‘PLPS Teamwork Club’ with Colchester United Community Foundation staff and U’s midfielder Matt Jay, as a reward for positive progress and behaviour within school.

24 Children were selected to take part in after school activities focused around ‘Teamwork’ and how to work and collaborate with each other to improve success within school.

Ben Lodge, Community Foundation staff member who delivers Premier League Primary Stars projects across schools in North Essex shared: “It was amazing to see Matt visit Cann Hall and reward the children for their positive progress and behaviour within school. Matt’s impact was incredible, to see so many children with smiles on their faces was a joy to see. The message of teamwork is an important one to young people, alongside inspiring young people to be the best they can be and go and achieve what ever it is they want to achieve, he was a positive role model for all.”

U’s midfielder, Matt Jay detailed the impact of his visit; “I really enjoyed the visit to Cann Hall Primary School. It was great to see both boys and girls participate and mix together and use their teamwork skills in the activities and games. Overall, a very enjoyable afternoon!”

Claire Hollamby-Hardi, Class Teacher & PE Lead at Cann Hall School commented; “The feedback from the children was positive! They were all enthusiastic and didn’t stop talking about the ‘PLPS Teamwork Club’ all week. The children enjoyed meeting Matty and playing football with him (and getting their picture taken with him too!), it was a real inspiration for them particularly some individuals who can feel a bit nervous about attending the regular clubs and using teamwork to engage them is a great learning tool too. Thank you to PLPS for this opportunity!”
