Date Set For Women’s League Cup Final

Colchester United to face Southminster United on 19th May

2 May 2024

The U’s Women will face Southminster United on Sunday 19th May (2:00pm KO) at the Len Salmon Stadium (Bowers & Pitsea) in the final of the Essex County Womens Football League Cup.

Simon King’s side battled through a tightly-contested semi-final against Premier Division leaders Chelmsford City to win 2-1, courtesy of a brace from Ella Cahill at the Melbourne Stadium a couple of weeks ago.

It could cap off what has been a successful return season for the U’s women.

The team currently sit top of Division Two and are well placed to win the title. King’s side have won all fifteen of their league games, putting them seven points clear in first place with an impressive goal difference of +110.

And after already overcoming opponents from higher divisions on their route to the final (including wins over Romford, Stanway Rovers and Chelmsford City), the U’s women will be going into the final full of confidence they can lift some silverware at the end of the match.

Tickets will be available to purchase on the day from the Len Salmon Stadium, home of Bowers & Pitsea. Adult tickets are priced at £5, with Concessions and U16s free on the gate.

The U’s Women have two away league games between now and the final, facing off against Rayleigh (Sunday 5th May) and AFC Sudbury (Sunday 12th May) in the league before the final towards the end of the month.
