Long lay off for U's youngster

Tosin Olufemi will be out of action for months after serious injury

He ruptured his Achilles Tendon at Bishop's Stortford on Wednesday night and is expected to be missing for about six months.

An operation to repair the tendon has already taken place but according to U's Physio Tony Flynn, there is still a long road to recovery for the young full back.

He told the official website on Friday: "I suspected he had ruptured the Achilles straight away and was on the phone to the surgeon at half time to pencil Tosin in for the operation as soon as possible."

"Studies have shown that the quicker the operation is performed, the better it is so it was great that we got Tosin in the next day.

"He is already back at home recovering but it will be a lengthy lay-off, about six months usually.
"I'm positive that Tosin is and that he'll make a full recovery.

"It's a horrible thing to happen to any player but it has bought it home that football can be cruel sometimes but you have to be strong mentally.

"We have a great tight knit squad and he will get the full support of all the players and staff.

"We will ensure that he has the best possible care and that has started already with the operation already done and dusted.

On hearing the news, manager Joe Dunne said: "I'm sure all the fans will join us in wishing Tosin a speedy recovery from what is obviously a really serious injury."

"The plaster cast will be on for a couple of weeks and then he'll be in an Air-Cast boot for about ten weeks before we can really start on his rehab."
