Okuonghae Appeal Rejected

14 August 2014

Skipper to miss Bristol clash.

The appeal for Magnus Okuonghae's red card against Charlton Athletic has been turned down.

The U's were informed on Thursday lunchtime that the sending off midway through the first half will stand after the video evidence was analysed.

The full reasoning for the appeal rejection is due to follow soon, but boss Joe Dunne was disappointed that he will be without his captain for the weekend trip to Bristol City.

He said: "I feel bitterly disappointed and let down. I have great respect for the PGMO, but I feel very bitter because we feel we had a case.  "We will get a report and explanation, but it will say what it needs to say and the referee has been backed in his decision.

"We will adapt to it, and prepare for the weekend."

"Despite that, we know what we’re going to do. I've spoken to the players today and started preparation with and without Magnus in the side.

The U's saw Jack Curtis travel with the side for the midweek cup game and he is likely to be involved again. Joe will also take Frankie Kent with him to the West Country, and he could be a contender to fill Magnus' spot.
"I have no problems with considering Frankie for Saturday. The only reason he didn’t come on on Tuesday was that I wanted to keep attacking players on the pitch, so I have no qualms in playing him."
