Surgery For Szmodics

4 January 2017

Sammie has ankle operation.

"It’s been a case of shaving and smoothing the surface and all being well, we’re hoping that it won’t be longer than about six weeks until he’s back in action."

"He has had an operation to remove a small piece of bone on the side of his ankle, which has been causing the problem when he makes contact with the ball or any opposition players.

"We thought we had Sammie back in action towards the end of last month, but a setback in an U23s match has put a stop to that.

U's Physio Tony Flynn explained what was done during Sammie's operation.

It was decided that surgery would be the best option and he went under the knife on Wednesday morning.

He came on as a second half substitute but suffered a re-occurrence in an U23s game a few days later.

The U's forward injured his ankle earlier this season but was on the way back to full fitness when the U's visited Mansfield last month.

Sammie Szmodics has undergone surgery.
