Hip injury rules out U's defender

Following the latest friendly, against Crystal Palace, U's Physio Tony Flynn broke the bad news.

The twenty five year old has missed the past few pre-season games and a scan has revealed damage that may well require surgery.

U's defender Matt Briggs faces the possibility of an operation on a hip injury."Unfortunately, it looks very likely that Matt will have to go under the knife to rectify the problem with his hip.

"We will obviously know more in due course but the early estimates put a recovery time in months rather than weeks."

"It should be a smooth round ball at the top of the femur but Matt's has become elongated so it doesn't sit and move properly in the hip itself."

"Not only does the cartilage in his hip need repairing, the head of the joint needs reshaping.
