Defender's contract is cancelled.

As boss Joe Dunne continues to shape his squad for this and the coming seasons, Tom now becomes the third player to leave after having his contract cancelled and we wish him good fortune in his future footballing career.

However, he found first team opportunities harder to come by after that and has subsequently had loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Chelmsford City.

Having graduated through the Colchester United youth system, he became the second youngest player to pull on the U's shirt as then manager Aidy Boothroyd gave him his debut against Hartlepool in September 2009.

Tom, like fellow defender Tom Aldred earlier in the month, has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent, allowing him to find another club before the end of the season.

Defender Tom Bender has become the latest U's player to leave in the January transfer window.
