Youngsters Sign Contracts

15 July 2015

James and Issa confirm U's stay.

Colchester United have secured two more of their young prospects on long term contracts, as the club continues to build for the future.

In 2014/15, Academy players contributed 122 first team appearances in league and cup competition and the likes of Sammie Szmodics and Frankie Kent were both rewarded with long term deals.

And the latest to follow in their footsteps are two more of the club's young players.

Cameron James and Tariq Issa, both second year scholars in the U's U18s side, have signed new four year contracts to secure their future with the club in the coming years.

17-year-old Cameron joined the U's as a 9-year-old from nearby Writtle Minors and has quickly settled into life as a full time scholar at the club.

In the second half of the 2014/15 season, Cameron broke through into the U's U21s and showed his versatility, playing both in his more accustomed role of central defender and as a holding midfielder for John McGreal's men.

He has also enjoyed a stint with the U's first team in pre-season, playing in both of the senior side's friendlies so far.

Tariq, also 17-years-old, became part of the U's youth set up aged 12 and arrived from Trinity Football Club in Southend.

The tricky forward has also been part of the U's U21s set-up already in his time at the club, and has been a regular face as an attacking force in the U18s.

We will have their reaction to signing the contracts and the views of the U's management team soon!

He had broken through to the U18s whilst still an U16s player and whilst his first year of his scholarship was interrupted by injuries, he is one of the U's highly rated young players and joins Cameron in signing a long term contract.
