U21s See Off Brentford

23 November 2015

Akinwande, Bailey and Regis on target.

Colchester United U21s got back to winning ways on Monday afternoon, as they picked up an impressive win against in-form Brentford.

The U's had lost their last game 3-1 at Watford, but bounced back to win by the same scoreline against a Bees side that had won seven of their last eight games.

Fresh from signing for the U's on a permanent basis, front man Femi Akinwande got the home side off to a flier on just nine minutes as he sidefooted home to give the U's the lead.

Seven minutes later, the visitors were level as a long range free kick from Reece Cole made it 1-1.

That was it for the scoring for the first half, but the U's were quickly out of the blocks in the second forty-five minutes.

They went in front on 55 minutes, when Louis Dunne's shot was saved, but Kieran Bailey was on hand to make it two in two for the midfielder after his recent return to action.

And the U's made it 3-1 five minutes later, as Chris Regis curled home from just outside the box to extend the home side's lead.

That was enough for John McGreal's men, who keep pace with the sides at the top of the division.

The match also saw Richard Brindley play 45 minutes in his first action since August, as he steps up his return to fitness.
