Olufemi Double Earns Win

Tosin strikes twice to defeat Charlton

Colchester United U21s made it three wins in a row on Monday afternoon, as they beat Charlton Athletic 2-1 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The first half was a closely fought affair, before the U's took command in the second period with two goals from Tosin Olufemi.

Charlton pulled one back, but the U's showed great discipline to see out the game and extend their good start to the season.

Chances were at a premium in the first half, but Drey Wright tested Jordan Beeney in the Addicks goal with a low shot that the keeper turned away.

Two minutes later and Jack Curtis went close, as his low free kick had Beeney scrambling across to parry away.

At the other end, Jamie Harney blocked well from Brandon Hanlon's goalbound shot, before Jemale McKenzie-Lowe should have done better when he found space at the far post.

The U's stepped it up in the second period and it was no surprise when they took five minutes after the restart.

A low ball was whipped in from the left after a patient Colchester move and Tosin Olufemi was alert enough to dart in and slam home the opener.

Five minutes later and he had doubled his tally, as he stepped inside and whipped home a fantastic left footed shot into the top corner beyond the helpless Beeney.

The U's looked comfortable at that stage, but they had work to do in the final fifteen minutes after the Addicks pulled one back.

A free kick found its way to the far post and centre half Harry Lennon showed composure to tuck home and half the deficit.

The U's managed the latter part of the game well, though, protecting keeper Dillon Barnes and preserving their advantage to make it nine points from their first four games.
