U's Flash: James Deal

27 April 2016

Bransgrove agrees new deal

A second contract renewal has been confirmed today, with James Bransgrove committing his future to the U's.

The young keeper, who turns twenty one next month, has put pen to paper on a three year deal, taking him up to the summer of 2019.

He told the official website: "I'm obviously really pleased to have signed a new contract and really grateful to the club for sticking by me through my injury."

There was also thanks to Goalkeeping Coach Ademola (George) Bankole for his influence through the rehabilitation process.

"George worked me hard to get me back fit and into this position so I thank him and everyone else who has helped me through the process of getting back fit."

Despite the comfort of a long term contract, the young stopper is well aware of how tough the job of breaking into the first team will be.

"There's fierce competition for the goalkeeper spot but that means you have to push yourself every day to be better than the others."
"It's part of the job though, and only one of us can play - we all understand that and we all push each other.

""I know that if I play well in the U21s, I will hopefully get the opportunity to play first team football - that's how it works here and that makes you want to do well all the time."
