Porter Named Captain

21 July 2015

Striker gets skipper role, Gilbey is vice-captain.

Colchester United front man Chris Porter has been selected as the U's new club captain.

Porter, who joined the U's from Sheffield United in January of this year, was confirmed as the new skipper by boss Tony Humes ahead of the match against West Ham at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The 31-year-old played 22 games last season as he helped to lead the U's to safety in 2014/15, scoring seven times.

Porter will be supported in captaincy duties by Alex Gilbey, who has been named vice-captain by boss Humes.

Alex, who broke through to the first team in 2012, having previously captained the youth team.

He wore the armband on occasions last season and will work alongside Porter in captaining the team.

The 21-year-old has now made 79 appearances for the senior side and will be looking to break through the century mark in 2015/16.

We'll have more reaction from both players soon!
