Former Players Pass Away

19 August 2015

U's discover sad news regarding Kennon and Rumney.

Colchester United have been saddened to hear the news of the passing of two of its former players in recent days.

Sandy Kennon, a goalkeeper, began his career in England in 1956 with Huddersfield Town, but it was with Norwich City that he really established himself.

He played 255 times for the Canaries in seven years, and was later inducted into the club's Hall of Fame.

Following his stint with Norwich, he made the switch to Layer Road in 1965. In his two years with Colchester United, he played 76 times before moving onto Lowestoft Town.

Sandy died, aged 81, on Monday.

Meanwhile, fellow U's player Edgar Rumney also sadly passed away this week, aged 78.

Born in nearby Abberton, Edgar joined the U's as an apprentice and between 1957 and 1964, he played 52 times for the U's.

Edgar also had a strong association with Abberton Cricket Club following his playing days and was associated with the club well into his later life, also assuming the role of club president.

Our thoughts are with the Kennon and Rumney families at this sad time.
