Duo Are Inducted

Duguid and Forbes join esteemed list.

Karl Duguid and Duncan Forbes joined the esteemed list of Hall of Fame inductees at the latest Former Players' Dinner at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Saturday night.

Unable to make the dinner due to ill health, his award was accepted on the night by Leeds 1971 hero Ray Crawford.

It was no surprises that his performances attracted the attention of Norwich City and he made nearly 300 appearances for the Canaries as he continued to be a tough man to beat out on the pitch.

Duncan came south from Scotland to join the U's in 1961 and went on to make over 250 appearances for the club, winning promotion twice in that time.

Karl was joined by Duncan Forbes in the Hall of Fame, as the no nonsense defender completed a special double, having already been inducted into Norwich City's Hall of Fame 14 years ago.

The team then finished in their highest league position the next season, as the Championship proved to be a happy hunting ground for Geraint Williams' side.

Injury looked like it might cut short his time in the blue and white stripes, but he battled back to not only return to action, but to lead the U's to the Championship for the first time in their history.

His versatility and desire played a big part in his longevity at Colchester, playing under a host of managers during his 14 years at the club.

Karl, who came through the youth ranks at Layer Road, was the Fans Inductee for 2016, having come out on top of your vote over the past few weeks.

And Doogie, who played over 400 times for the U's, and Duncan were inducted into the Hall of Fame at the end of a successful evening.

As the dust settled on the busy day of FA Cup action, players from U's yesteryear - many of whom had watched the game against Spurs - came together for the latest reunion dinner.
