George Fisher: 1925-2015

2 September 2015

Former player passes away.

Colchester United are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of former player George Fisher.

George passed away on Sunday morning, aged 90, and leaves behind wife Marie, twin brother Jack and children Kevan, Melvyn and Jacqueline.

Full back George joined the U's from Fulham for a fee of £1,000, arriving after manager Benny Fenton had spotted him playing whilst scouting another player at the West London club.

He went on to play 172 times for the U's, scoring six times.

On his departure from Layer Road, he went on to play for Bexleyheath & Welling, Romford and Aveley and also had a stint as manager.

After retiring from football, he scouted for Millwall, where his brother Jack also played in the 1950s.

Our thoughts are with the Fisher family at this sad time.
