U's Flash: Jake Joins

7 January 2016

Goalkeeper signs on loan.

Colchester United boss Kevin Keen has made his first move in the January transfer window, with the addition of Norwich City goalkeeper Jake Kean on loan.

The 24-year-old has initially signed for the U's for a month and, subject to paperwork clearance, will be available for the weekend FA Cup tie against Charlton.

The 6'5 shot stopper comes with a good pedigree, starting his career with Blackburn Rovers before his summer move to Carrow Road, and he has had a host of loan spells since making his debut back in 2010.

His first taste of league experience came with Hartlepool United, where he played 25 games in a six month loan spell in League One.

He was back out again at the start of the 2011/12 season, where he played 15 times for Rochdale on loan and, upon his return to Ewood Park, he made his Premier League debut away to Chelsea.

In 2012/13, he established himself in the Rovers first team at Championship level, and he played 24 times in league and cup, including a famous 1-0 win against Arsenal in the FA Cup at the Emirates.

He retained his place in the side at the start of the 2013/14 season but, after Christmas, Simon Eastwood took his spot in the team.

With Paul Robinson returning to fitness, he was again out on loan in 2014/15, with spells at Yeovil Town and Oldham Athletic where he spent time with new teammates Joe Edwards and George Elokobi, and he has now racked up nearly 100 first team appearances.

A summer switch to Norwich saw him head to Norfolk after leaving Ewood Park and he will now get further first team football in U's colours.
