Former youth teamer ready to pass on his knowledge.
Colchester United U18s assistant coach Liam Bailey is hoping to take his own experiences of youth football into his new role next season.
Liam was recently appointed to be number two to David Wright with the U18s for 2016/17 and, having come through the ranks in the youth system at Layer Road, Liam believes he can help guide the future talent through to good things in their careers.
"The club has moved forward massively since my time as a scholar," Liam told the official website.
"My career never quite got going, so I will draw on my own experiences on where I felt I could have done with more help and advice and try to keep it as individual to each player as I can, so we can give them their best chance of making it into the U21s and hopefully the first team."
The Wright/Bailey partnership means that they will be resuming a working relationship that saw them take the Maldon & Tiptree first team in the first half of last season.
And Liam, who met youngsters from local side St Edmunds YFC at the stadium on Tuesday night, is looking forward to getting started: "I'm very pleased to be working with David again.
"He is a player who has played at the highest level, and he has brought that experience into his coaching.
"I've picked up a lot on how meticulous he is with planning and in games. He's a very professional coach and I'm happy to be working with him.
"This is a good job and a good stepping stone for me. I have worked my way up through the age groups and, after my time at Maldon last year, the professional phase was something I wanted to work in more closely.
"The academy is looking very strong. Since we have been in Category 2, we have been competing with the bigger clubs, which is a credit to the coaches and players who put in the hard work.
"I do think there are some very good players coming through in the next few years."
