Briggs ready for positive season ahead.

Colchester United’s latest summer signing Matthew Briggs is looking forward to a strong campaign with his new team, after putting pen to paper on Monday.

Matthew became the U's second defensive signing of the close season, following Richard Brindley in converting a loan move to a permanent one.

And, after joining the U's, he told the official website: "It's been sorted out quite quickly in fairness and it's a great opportunity to play some games and get the experience I need.

"I was here last season and I know the club, players and staff really well, which makes it easier to fit it in. I enjoyed my time on loan and that was an important factor in deciding to come back."

Matthew's signature means that four of the regular back five from last season are now signed to the U’s for 2015/16, with boss Tony Humes looking for a centre half to fill the void left by Bongani Khumalo.

Reflecting on last season, the U's new boy added: "In the last ten games, we started to come together as a unit and started dominating games and it shows there is potential in the group.

"It’s a young and talented squad, and with a good pre-season under our belt, I think we could have a strong campaign this year. It's positive to be starting at home and then we just have to take each game as it comes."
