FC Clacton Win Award

24 November 2014

Local team presented with Fair Play accolade on Saturday.

They enjoyed a VIP day out at the Weston Homes Community Stadium as part of their prize for winning an Essex County FA Fair Play Award in 2013/14, recognising their sportsmanship and impeccable behaviour on and off the pitch.

On Saturday afternoon we extended a warm welcome to FC Clacton U12s Reds.

Clacton were nominated by the Colchester & District Youth League and Essex County Girls' League club Little Thurrock Dynamos U11s won the girls' category. In adult football, Rayne United FC of the County Motor Works Vauxhall Mid Essex League won in the Saturday category, while Ravens FC from the Chelmsford Invitation League were the Sunday victors.

They watched the U's against Port Vale on Saturday 1st November.

Earlier in the year, leagues made nominations in three categories - Youth, Saturday and Sunday clubs - and a specially-formed judging panel assessed every submission using a structured set of criteria.

These included a team's disciplinary record, their sportsmanship marks and any supporting statement provided by the league that put them forward.

Danny Coyle, Secretary of FC Clacton YFC, believes the team were worthy winners of the U10s-14s category: "We were absolutely ecstatic when we found out we'd won!

"The looks on their faces when they were told were priceless. The fact that we went through the whole season losing every game didn't seem to worry the kids. They played every match as if this was the one that they were finally going to win!"
