U's Academy products contribute to survival.
Colchester United's Academy products contributed over 100 first team appearances this season, as the club ensured they would fight to live another day in League One.
The appearance of Alex Gilbey against Preston, along with the weekend introductions of Sammie Szmodics and Dion Sembie-Ferris from the substitutes' bench, saw homegrown players end up with 122 first team appearances in League and Cup in 2014/15, along with nine goals.
Gilbey and Szmodics led the way with 36 (34+2) and 35 (18+17) appearances respectively, whilst six of the double winning U18s side of the 2013/14 season played first team football this season.
The 122 appearances is also 37% up on the previous season's total of 89.
