Colchester United's award winning Weston Homes Community Stadium held its first non-football sporting event last Friday, as the cream of local boxing descended to show their skills to a packed Centennial Suite.

From the Essex Schools finals, to the giants of 3 Para Regiment, the watching crowd enjoyed an evening of first class boxing on a night to remember.

John Schultz, who helped organise the evening, said: "This really was a fantastic night for all concerned.

"There was some great boxing for everyone to see, which was of a high quality throughout. There was a good attendance at the stadium and a great atmosphere.

"I would like to extend our thanks to Martin Webb and Harwich Amateur Boxing Club for their help in putting on the evening and I would also like to thank the officials and boxers, who all contributed to a truly memorable evening."
