2007/8 Commitee Inductees

Posted on: Thu 29 May 2008
The U's Hall of Fame expanded to eleven members at the end of the 2007/8 season, as five more players were added to the list of inductees.

With the curtain falling on the U's time at Layer Road, a host of ex-Colchester United players were invited along to the final game against Stoke City, with five of those in attendance added to the prestigious Hall of Fame.

The new additions were as follows:-

Reg Stewart
A member of the first ever Colchester United side to play in a Football League game, Reg was an uncompromising central defender who came south from Sheffield Wednesday.

A regular in the heart of the defence for seven years, he played some 268 times for the U's before leaving to sign for Clacton Town.

Vic Keeble
The U's first superstar striker, Vic's prolific goalscoring rate - including 45 in one season - saw hm switch to Newcastle United in a move worth £1m in today's money.

He scored 23 times in the league for the U's, before the bright lights of the north east came calling, but now lives locally.

Bobby Hunt
Another prolific forward, Bobby holds the record for the most goals in a Football League season for the U's, notching an impressive 39 goals in one campaign.

He formed a dangerous partnership with Martyn King, with the two strikers regularly scoring over 20 goals a season during their time with the club.

Martyn King
The U's record goalscorer with 134 goals to his name during his time at Layer Road, regularly breaking the 20 goal landmark alongside Bobby Hunt.

He spent six years with Colchester before eventually leaving to sign for Wrexham.

Tony Adcock
Prolific in two spells with the club, Tony fell just short of breaking Martyn King's all time goalscoring record for the U's.

He did, however, end up as the player to score the most for the club in Layer Road home games, notching some 95 goals in front of U's supporters.
