Attendance:

It was more away day heartbreak for the U's at Huddersfield, as an injury time winner denied them a point.

A 2-1 defeat meant a seventh away defeat in a row, but the performance deserved more than nothing.

The U's went behind on fifteen minutes, when a Paul Reid handball saw the referee award a spot kick and Robinson shot low into the bottom corner.

Simon Hackney scored an equaliser after good work from Kayode Odejayi but Novac volleyed a winner for the home side in injury time.

A game that a few weeks ago looked crucial to deciding the play-off line up turned out to be a dead rubber, with the U's too far away from their hosts to overtake them in the last two matches.

There was still three points to fight for though, and U's boss Aidy Boothroyd stated that he was looking for two wins in the final fixtures.

And Boothroyd made three changes to his starting line up, bringing in Ian Henderson, David Fox and Simon Hackney.

David Prutton was missing due to his red card last weekend against Tranmere and Steven Gillespie and Ashley Vincent were the other two who missed out.

Youngster Bradley Hamilton, a defender who has just completed his first year in the youth team, took his place on the U's bench for the first time.

The game kicked off with the sun just about still visible amongst the clouds and it was the U's who started brightly, with half chances for David Fox and Ian Henderson.

Fox's curler was straight at keeper Smithies but the home keeper had to work a bit harder with Henderson's effort, tipping it over the bar for a corner.

On fourteen minutes, the home side had their first real effort, with Rhodes' cross shot deflected for a corner by the intervention of Paul Reid.

From the resultant corner, the U's centre half Reid handled and referee Kevin Stroud pointed to the spot.

There was a question of a push on Reid but the decision was made and Reid was booked by the former Premier League official.

And the punishment got worse seconds later, as Robinson firmly sidefooted the penalty home, despite Williams diving the right way.

The U's tried to get back into the game and it was the visitors who were creating the chances in the middle of the first half.

Wordsworth went over the bar with a long range effort, Fox volleyed straight into the keeper's arms and Kevin Lisbie far post header failed to test Smithies.

As the U's went looking for the equaliser, gaps were appearing in wide areas and Roberts particularly was starting to influence things.

Roberts took the ball past Tierney on forty two minutes but from his smart cross, Robinson's strike was rushed and went narrowly wide of the far post.

There wasn't much between the two sides in the first half and the referee was asked by a couple of U's players about the penalty award as they trooped off for the break.

The second half got off to a slow start and the only chance in the first fifteen minutes of the half came through Wordsworth's tame chip, that went high and wide.

On sixty four minutes, The U's were awarded a free kick when Lisbie was fouled on the edge of the box but Fox's effort flew wide.

The U's got an equaliser on seventy five minutes, when Simon Hackney side footed into the corner of the net.

Substitute Kayode Odejayi powered his way past Clarke and put the cross in for Hackney to finish.

The game looked like it was heading for a draw as it went into injury time but a late free kick led to Huddersfield scoring a late winner.

The free kick was whipped into the box and Novac volleyed home, seconds before the referee blew the final whistle.
