Guy Does The Trick For Reserves

Posted on: Wed 09 Apr 2008
Jamie Guy was the man on the mark on Wednesday afternoon as the U's reserves ran out 4-2 winners against MK Dons.

The front man hit an impressive hat-trick before Luke Guttridge rounded off the scoring in the dying stages after the Dons had threatened to get back into the game.

Guy's first two goals were carbon copy efforts as, at the start of each half, he outmuscled his opponent to fire in a fierce shot past the Dons keeper.

The visitors drew level after the striker's sixth minute opener, with Daniel Roles crossing across the face of goal for Reese Ashraff to tuck home from a narrow angle.

Ashraff's equaliser came after a flurry of chances for both teams, with Guy and Kevin McLeod - who forced a good stop out of Kurt Fox - both going close to adding to the U's goal tally.

After that run of chances, there were no further goals until immediately after the restart.

Again Guy used his physical prowess to hold off the attentions of a Dons defender and smacked his shot past Fox to restore the U's advantage.

Luke Guttridge could have added a further goal as he turned in a low shot at the near post, but Fox had an easy stop.

However, ten minutes into the second half, the Dons stopper could do nothing about Guy's next effort as he twisted this way and that before eventually burying his shot into the bottom corner and his hat-trick.

Fox did deny Tom Webb with a point blank save on 61 minutes after a great run by Mitchell Nelson before Mark Cousins pulled off the saves of the game with a double stop on 72 minutes.

First he denied Daniel Powell with a tipped effort onto the post, before he blocked Roles' follow-up with an equally good stop.

However, the U's goalie was left to pick the ball out of the net on 87 minutes when the visitors got a controversial penalty.

Nelson was harshly adjudged to have fouled Powell and he stepped up to bury the spot kick beyond Cousins' despairing dive.

The U's were to have the last laugh, though.

First Watson volleyed in a superb effort from a corner to force another great stop out of Fox before Guttridge broke the offside trap and rounded the keeper to slot home from a narrow angle.
