Exclusive: Keys Handed Over
Colchester Borough Council has taken possession of the new Weston Homes Community Stadium, following construction company Barr's completion of the building.
The keys for the stadium itself were received on Monday and Colchester United will be starting their move from the Layer Road Ground on Thursday with a view to being fully moved in to their new home by Monday July 21st.
Barr will remain on site for the next few days to complete external ground works at the site ahead of the first public event at the stadium on Saturday July 26th.
As well as being the new home for Colchester United, the Weston Homes Community Stadium will also offer community and conferencing space for a wide range of activities.
Councillor Lyn Barton, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Regeneration, said: "The completion of the Weston Homes Community Stadium is the culmination of a tremendous deal of effort by all the partners.
"The facility is a fantastic high quality landmark building for Colchester which with the ability to be used and enjoyed by a wide variety of residents and visitors will be a great advertisement for the borough and the region."
Details of how the U's will be making the move will be detailed on the official website during the course of Wednesday, including how the business will be functioning during that time.
