Gilly Back In The Fold

Posted on: Fri 17 Oct 2008

U's record signing Steven Gillespie will make the trip to Stockport on Saturday as the team begin life under Paul Lambert.

The front man had had to miss the game against his former side Cheltenham Town last weekend with a sharp pain in his hamstring, but he will be in contention for the match at Edgeley Park.

Steven was due to play at Cheltenham, but he felt a sharp pain in the other leg to the injury he suffered with earlier in the season and it was enough to keep out of the game at Whaddon Road," physio Tony Flynn told the official website.

"He was very close to being fit and available and there was a possibility that he would have got through the game without any repercussions.

"If it had been the last game of the season and had no game for a while after, we might have risked him.

"Although there was that possibility that he would get through the match, there was also a danger that playing would have aggravated it further and put him out for four to six weeks.

"Bearing in mind that we have got potentially ten games in that period, we felt it was better to leave him out for one game and get him right."

We'll have full squad news on Saturday's game very soon.
