The U's have made an early January bid, in an effort to bring in Wycombe Wanderers centre half Mike Williamson.

A six figure bid was made on Monday morning, with U's boss Paul Lambert waiting to hear back from Wycombe as he looks to further strength his defence.

25-year-old Williamson began his career at Torquay United, before a £100,000 move along the South Coast to Southampton.

Loan spells at Doncaster, Wycombe and former club Torquay followed and a permanent switch to the Chairboys came about in 2005.

The U's will now await a decision from Wanderers before progressing any further.
