Work Continues On Fresh Faces

Posted on: Thu 15 Jan 2009

Manager Paul Lambert remains keen to add to his ranks in January.

Two deals have been done in January so far, with Marc Tierney and Jimmy Walker signing fresh deals with the club - permanently and on loan respectively.

Jimmy's dealings in January might not be done just yet, though, with the U's keen to work on something longer term with the experienced keeper.

"Jimmy has been revelation for us since he signed. The loan deal gives us and him time to sort something out, and hopefully he can come here on a more permanent basis."

Bids for centre halves have been those that have been made public, but Paul is keen to strengthen other areas of the squad and insists that the bids that have reached the public domain doesn't neccessarily spell the end for the players here.

"We have tried to get fresh faces in to give the lads here a bit of help," Paul explained.

"But, if we didn't get the new faces in, it is not necessarily a problem because Paul Reid and Pat Baldwin have been excellent recently.

"We just haven't had the chance to establish a partnership yet due to injuries and Matt Heath has probably been the most unfortunate there. We just want to give them a helping hand."
