Exclusive: Hackney Is U's Latest Addition

Colchester United have made a further addition in the transfer market, capturing winger Simon Hackney from Carlisle United on a permanent basis.

The wide man who signed for the Cumbrians from non-league Woodley Sports in 2005, joins for an undisclosed six figure fee.

The U's fellow League One side accepted a bid over the weekend and, following talks, the winger agreed terms with the Weston Homes Community Stadium side on Monday morning.

"I saw him in action for Carlisle against Crewe whilst I was out of work at the beginning of the season," manager Paul Lambert told the official website.

"I have had him watched since and he is another, like Marc Tierney, who I felt could do a job at this level. He is direct and will add to what we already have in the squad here."

Simon's move will be completed subject to clearance from the various footballing authorities and we'll have more on this story soon.
