U's frontman Steven Gillespie is set to rejoin first team training this week, having recovered from his calf injury.

The summer signing has been out of action since the game against Bristol Rovers three weeks ago, where he lasted just five minutes before having to be substituted.

However, he has made good progress and is expected to join the rest of the lads for training before the weekend trip to Walsall.

"Steven should be training this morning, which is a real plus point for us," manager Paul Lambert told the official website.

"If we can keep him fit until the end of the season, he will be like a new signing for us and give us extra options up front."

The loan window reopened on Tuesday and Paul admitted that he has been looking at available players who might bolster the U's forward ranks.

"There are one or two names that we are looking at but, as I always said, there is no point bringing in players for the sake of it.

"With Steven training now, it will also give us an extra option."
