Best Start In Five Years

Posted on: Wed 19 Aug 2009

The U's win against Gillingham on Tuesday night represents the club's best start to a league campaign for five years.

Not since 2004/5 have the Essex side won their first three games of a season, but the lads achieved that feat with their 2-1 win over the Gills at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Phil Parkinson's side won their first three league games of that season, winning at Sheffield Wednesday (3-0), and at home against Stockport County (3-2) and Peterborough United (2-1).

Should Joe Dunne's players make it four out of four at MK Dons, it would be the club's best start for 71 years.

In the second season of the U's existence, they won the first six games of their Southern League campaign, a run that also included a win over Gillingham.

What's more, the U's are beginning to overcome their home hoodoo, having won the first two league games of the new season at the Weston Homes.

In the first season at the award winning stadium, the U's took seven games to get their first win in front of their own supporters and it took until the end of November before they registered a pair of victories at home.

Things are looking much more optimistic this season, though, so get down to the Stadium:MK on Saturday to get right behind Joe and the boys!
