BETTING TIPS BY CHARLIE ALLEN
The U's travel to Tranmere this weekend and will be looking to add a first away win to manager Aidy Boothroyd's impressive start at the club.

The U's are currently 5th in the table and will be looking to keep up their good early form.

Tranmere on the other hand haven't started their campaign well under the guidance of John Barnes. Rovers currently sit 23rd on three points, with only Southampton propping them up at the bottom of the table.

It's not surprising from those stats that the U's start the game as favourites with odds of 11/10.

Rovers won't give up three home points easily though, and they have odds of 12/5 to pick up their second win of the season. 12/5 is also the price on the two sides splitting the points and playing out a draw on the day.

After an impressive debut at home to Hartlepool, Kayode Odejayi should be in line for another start at the weekend. The powerful striker is priced at 6/1 to net first on the day.

Kevin Lisbie is still the favourite to score first on Saturday, despite the likely-hood of him starting out on the wing to cover for the injured Ashley Vincent. Lisbie has odds of 11/2.

Once England striker Michael Ricketts is likely to lead the line for Rovers on Saturday and the striker certainly proved a handful for the U's defence last season.

Ricketts was playing for Walsall last season and managed to net a goal in both of the matches against the U's for the Saddlers.

The target man is 15/2 to score first on the day.

As for the other contenders to break the deadlock on Saturday,

John Barnes could be tempted to recall Chris Shuker 8/1 and Alan Mahon 22/1 to the Rovers starting line-up.

The U's outside bet for first goalscorer would have to be John Joe O'Toole with the midfielder going close against Hartlepool and it seems only a matter of time before the youngster gets his first U's goal.

Another youngster who is hunting his first U's goal and first senior career goal is on loan defender Danny Batth.

The powerful centre back is always going to be a threat from set pieces and its surely worth a quid!

The score on Saturday sees the odds in Colchester's favour once again. The favourite outcome is a 1-0 U's win at 6/1. The teams to draw 1-1 also has the same odds.

Aidy Boothroyd has managed to sure up the defence in his short time at The U's so far only conceding just one goal in three games.

The U's are 8/1 to win 2-0 and that looks like a good bet to me. There are also very good odds on The U's winning 3-0 (18/1) or 3-1 (16/1).

Tranmere will not be giving goals away though with first team goalkeeper Luke Daniels coming back into the side and they are 11/1 to win 2-1 and send the U's fans on the long trip home unhappy.

Rovers are 15/2 to win 1-0 on the day and ease the pressure on John Barnes.

Last season, the U's beat Tranmere 4-3 on a crazy Friday night at Prenton Park. That scoreline looks unlikely to repeat itself and has odds of 100/1.

Away from Colchester United quickly, The Premiership is starting to take shape already with 3 of last seasons top 4 already well on their way.

Stoke have the task of taking on Manchester United but as I said before the Chelsea game their home fans may act as the twelfth man and help them towards a result.

Might be an idea to take a flask and a bite to eat though, because if United aren't winning after 90 minutes it could be a while before Fergie lets the game end!

Liverpool host struggling Hull at Anfield and another loss could push Phil Brown over the edge with building pressure from the Tigers fans.

Spurs will look to see off Burnley at White Hart Lane, Peter Crouch will be looking to bag a few goals after his midweek hat-trick in the League Cup.

Portsmouth are still yet to gain a single point so far this season, and they host Everton in the early kick off on Saturday with David Moyes not known to be a charitable soul.

League One sees a full schedule of matches, the pick of the bunch being MK Dons hosting Leeds at Stadium:MK. I fancy that MK are the team to upset Leeds and snatch a victory.

Leyton Orient face Millwall at Brisbane Road and with George Williams struggling to get Orient's season up and running Millwall will fancy their chances of three points.

Brighton travel to this season's surprise package Bristol Rovers and with Nicky Forster in top scoring form I can see this match being this weekend's highest scoring.

Tranmere v U's prediction: 2-1 U's
Best Bet: John Joe O'Toole first scorer @ 12/1
Accumulator tip: Tottenham, Liverpool, MK Dons, Brighton, Bury
