U's boss Aidy Boothroyd is hoping midfielder Kem Izzet will be back from his illness sooner rather than later.

The long serving player has been suffering from flu this week and Aidy brought in Josh Payne on loan from West Ham to ensure that the squad has cover should it be needed this weekend.

And he is keen to see Kem available in the near future.

"Kem has been absolutely fantastic," Aidy told the official website.

"Like Clive Platt, he is an unsung hero who goes about their business quietly and allows the other players to get out there and do it.

"Every team needs a Kem Izzet.

"I have brought Josh in to provide us with another option, although we can play David Fox or Anthony Wordsworth in there as well.

"I also have John-Joe O'Toole and I like to give myself selection problems.

"It keeps the players on their toes and other teams guessing."

Aidy has also been keen to draft in players from higher divisions, because he believes it can play a big part in getting the U's to where they want to be in the future.

The club of course tasted Championship life when they were at Layer Road and Aidy is keen to get himself and the team at least that high in the next few years.

"And of course, we also always try and improve. Since I have been here, I have brought in two loanees from the Premiership and two from the Championship, because that's where I want to take this club in the future.

"We have an action plan of where we want to go as a club in the future, which I am totally online with and bought into and I want to make it happen."
