The U's reserves fell to defeat on Tuesday afternoon, with Peterborough United winning 2-1 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Loanee Josh Payne equalised Shaun Batt's opener and the second half winner came seventeen minutes from time, when Ben Wright scored at the second attempt.
Both sides, sitting first and second in the league, fielded experienced teams and it was a tight encounter throughout, with both teams creating a few chances.
It was the visitors who started better and almost opened the scoring on four minutes, when they struck the post from distance and narrowly missed the target with the rebound.
It only took another five minutes before they did take the lead, when Alan Maybury tripped Batt as the Posh forward closed in on goal. Batt took the spot kick himself and calmly sent Mark Cousins the wrong way.
The lead didn't last long though, as the U's pushed forward and a couple of minutes after Matt Heath's header was saved, Josh Payne volleyed home. Medy Elito made a good run on the right and cut the ball back for the on loan Hammer.
Payne cleverly flicked the ball up with his right foot and struck his shot past Mckeown in the Posh goal.
The second half produced less goal mouth incident and was mostly played in the middle third, but it was the U's who had the best of the opening exchanges.
Elito got in on the left but his dangerous cross was cleared before Gillespie headed wide from Maybury's cross.
Paul Reid then had to at his sharpest, deflecting a shot wide after good build up play by the visitors.
And in the visitors' next attack, in the seventy third minute, Wright scored the winner when he swept his shot home. His initial effort was blocked on the line by Tom Bender but it rolled straight back out to Wright who made no mistake.
Both sides then had half chances, with Mark Cousins saving well from a close range effort and Elito having his shot from the edge of the area saved.U's: Cousins, Cusack, Maybury, Heath, Reid, Baldwin, Bender, Corcoran, Payne, Elito, O'Sullivan, Wordsworth, McCloskey, Gillespie, Thomas, Pavett
