After their promising start to the league season, Colchester slumped to a second consecutive defeat, in a match that followed the pattern of their last match at Southend.

The team showed a couple of changes from the team that played against the Shrimpers, with Shane Stamp in at left back for Tom Bender, and Alex O'Leary playing instead of Louis O'Sullivan in midfield.

As in previous weeks, the U's began brightly, playing some fluent football, but failing to then produce an end result.

As a consequence of this, the O's netted with their first real chance of the match, as a cross was not dealt with, and the centre half netted with an acrobatic overhead kick.

Colchester continued to have the better of the play but in their next attack, Orient attacked from deep and got through midfield and then in on goal, the chance was slotted away at the second attempt.

So despite having a good part of the match, the visitors found themselves trailing 2-0 at half time.

After the break, the U's were again dominant, but in truth, all their good approach play failed to create any decent chances, and they were unable to test the home keeper throughout the whole game.

All the promising football had produced no end results.

It was a match played in good spirit, with no cautions.

With a small playing squad this season, it also gave manager Tony Humes a chance to plan for next season, with three of the U16s squad - Ryan Melaugh, Mason Stewart and Jack Folan - again on the bench.

Team: Andrew Dickey, Bradley Hamilton, John Glowacki, Trevor Ajim, Shane Stamp, Jordan Sanderson, Conor McCloskey, Jordan Lartey, Alex O`Leary, Craig Arnott and Jordan Pavett

Used subs: Ryan Melaugh, Jack Folan and Mason Stewart and unused sub: Shane Cusack

This Saturday the boys will make the long trip to Exeter City to try and play the recently postponed FA Youth Alliance League Cup match.
