The U's will be giving the FA Cup the respect it deserves when they travel to Preston this weekend.

With the team flying high in League One and a tough January coming up, the temptation might have been to shuffle the pack for the trip to Deepdale.

But boss Aidy Boothroyd confirmed that the focus is on keeping up the winning mentality for this weekend's fixture.

"We'll be as strong as we can be," Aidy told the official website.

"If we aren't, we could get turned over. We want to keep our winning run going and, in the cup, it has been a case of so far so good with the results that we've picked up.

"The chairman and the board will have their eyes on a big draw - and so do I - but he also knows that it is a tough game for us this weekend.

"It is a tough game, but it will be one that we won't much praise for winning, if we get through.

"I don't want everyone to get over excited, to me the priority is to get promotion. But if we can do the double and win the FA Cup, then of course that'd be great!"

The U's travel to Deepdale to take on a Preston side who parted company with their manager this week.

Alan Irvine left North End with the team in 16th in the Championship but, despite the changing of the guard for the Lancashire team, the U's boss still expects a tough match.

"For someone like Alan to go is a strange one," Aidy admitted.

"Sometimes as a manager you can be too successful, because people want more the next time around, but if you don't achieve that, then the manager is the usually the one that leaves.

"However, they are a good Championship team and Rob Kelly is a good coach who knows what to expect from me and they have had us watched.

"I saw their scout was here on Monday and he'll know it'll be a tough game."
