New Crowd High For WHCS

Posted on: Mon 18 Jan 2010

Get your tickets! Did you know you can now buy tickets for ALL of the U's home games this season? Log on to colutickets.com! You can also ring 0845 437 9089 or visit either of the club's two shops!

Colchester United recorded their highest crowd for over forty years for the derby day clash against Norwich City.

The crowd of 10,064 was the first time that the 10,000 barrier had been broken by the U's since the 1983 League Cup tie against Manchester United at Layer Road.

And, having passed the 10,007 that watched the U's against Gillingham in 1974, the crowd for the weekend game was the highest since Southend came to town in a Division Four clash in November 1968.

The crowd sets a new record high for the Weston Homes Community Stadium in all competitions, surpassing both the Leeds United gate from last season (9,559) and the England U19s match against Germany (9,692).

The weekend attendance means that the seasonal average is now up to 5,988.

That's currently the highest seasonal average since the 1970/1 season, where the U's averaged 6,362.

Tickets remain on sale for all of the U's home games this season, so don't miss your chance to be a part of this year's promotion push!
