U's boss Aidy Boothroyd believes that he has an 'absolute gem' on his hands in defender Matt Heath.
Heathy has had to be patient for his first team chance, with the good form of Danny Batth and Paul Reid keeping him out of the team until recent weeks.
But a string of combative displays at the back has had Aidy purring - although the centre half's contribution has not surprised his manager one bit.
Aidy said: "I am pleased with him not just because of performances, but also with how he is as a lad.
"It is difficult for a footballer when out of the team, because they all want to be playing games.
"In Matt's case, he hasn't played as much as some of the others.
"But, despite that, he still comes in every day and does his work with a smile on his face.
"He works very hard at his game, and is always encouraging the others in training and on matchdays, even if he hasn't made the bench.
"It's clear that he is an absolute gem of a person and character.
"He has proven with his career that he's a good player as well. So whilst he has been unfortunate not to have been playing, he has done very, very well in the last few games."
