Who's For Hospitality Next Season?

Posted on: Tue 16 Mar 2010
U's supporters have been keen to sign up for hospitality next season.

Despite options only being made public last week, the Layer Suite has already seen its first members.

Having been members this season, Keith and Avril Russell were keen to continue enjoying the hospitality.

Keith told us: "We couldn't wait really. We have enjoyed the hearty meal deal this season and wanted to show our keenness for it and especially our favourite seats in W4 that we have had for the last two seasons. Plus of course, we're taking advantage of the early bird prices - when I saw them I thought 'get in there Keith'.

Although there is the option of a three course meal prior to each game, Keith and Avril are happy with the one course offering in the Layer Suite, with Keith commenting; "Full course option is too heavy for us every game but the hearty meal option is just right and balances the great atmosphere before, during and after the game.

"However, all the packages look great, the boxes are a great price and are very economical when inviting 10 people and the three course meal if you like that style."

The couple, who have been coming to watch the U's since the eighties, explained that they are trying to spread the word to as many people as possible and also told us how they first became involved.

"We talk about Colchester United a lot and try to get people to come along, with some success so far," Keith said.

"Our son David went to Sporting U's at Layer Road in 1987 and we all got invited to a game. Then we paid for our first Col U season ticket. The children were both mascots and our daughter was also chosen by Tony English to be a special mascot on his testimonial game and then also at an away game against Fulham."

When asked if the Weston Homes Community Stadium felt like home yet, Keith replied; "Very definitely yes. The atmosphere at the start was begging to become home for Layer Road supporters and during the Scunthorpe game last season, I believe the atmosphere began to show its true stamp of approval to the fans.

"It has been a growing feature as this season's continued at the Weston Homes and now, like Layer Road was, ... IT IS a place called HOME.
