The U's eased through to the Essex Senior Cup final on Wednesday night with an assured 4-0 win over Concord Rangers.

With the prospect of an all Canvey Island final against their local neighbours to play for, there was plenty of incentive for the home team ahead of kick-off.

But a blistering first half performance saw the U's rattle home four goals without reply to give themselves an insurmountable lead.

Development Coach Richard Hall had named a side full of experience - eight of the starting eleven have played multiple games for the first team this season - and he was rewarded with a controlled display.

The opening forty-five minutes in particular was played at a good tempo with real quality on and off the ball and, despite an improved display by Rangers after the break, that was enough to progress to the final.

After a fairly even stevens start, it was the U's who had the first sight of goal, as Coker's cross deflected to Bond, whose volley forced a good save out of Andy Young.

It started a good spell of pressure for the visitors, with Bond at the heart of much of the good work as the U's looked for the opening goal.

And it was no surprise that it was the former Barrow man put the U's in front after fourteen minutes.

Harry Elmes pushed Hamilton to the ground and the U's midfielder made no mistake as he smashed the ball home.

Two minutes later and the U's were in the comfort zone as a good move ended with James standing a cross up to the far post.

Wright chested it down and unleashed a fierce half volley, which Young got good hands to, but it looped up into the air and dropped over the line.

The U's were having the better of it as the half reached its halfway point and had another chance as Coker screwed a left footed shot wide of the target.

Just before the half hour mark, the U's gave themselves an even bigger advantage as they found themselves in acres of space down the left.

Bond ran unchallenged into the penalty area and, with the keeper exposed, he drilled into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.

Bond had been a real dynamo for the U's in the first half but spurned a chance for a hat-trick on 35 minutes.

Odejayi won the U's a penalty as he tangled with King in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. The U's midfielder went the other way this time, but Young guessed correctly and snaffled up the ball.

However, the midfielder didn't have to wait long for his hat-trick. A mistake from Miller let the ball slip under his foot and Coker got to the byline, cutting back for Bond, who smacked home with relish.

Wright got past his man in the box just before half time and, with men waiting in the area, he opted to shoot and forced another good save out of Young.

The U's could have made it five just after half time, Wright breaking away down the right and squaring the ball to James, who in time and space, lifted his effort over.

Bond nearly got his fourth of the night eight minutes into the half, drilling a shot from distance against the outside of the post.

Chances remained at a premium for the improved Concord after the break, but Aldred had to be on his toes to block a shot from the edge of the box fifteen minutes after the restart.

They did go close at the midway point of the second half, as Stanley finished off a fine flowing move by pulling Stokes' pass through to him only inches wide of the far post.

The U's made two changes of their own as they brought on youngsters Alex Gilbey and Nnamdi Nwachuku, with Izzet and Odejayi making way.

Stokes had come alive in the second half and, with ten minutes left on the clock, he forced the first real save out of Cousins, turning sharply on the edge of the box with a strong shot.

Coker made way for youngster Toby Blanche for the last six or seven minutes and he saw a fair bit of the ball, as the U's saw out the last few moments without any trouble.

A professional display sees the U's through to the final.
