Kids at Willow Brook Primary School got the chance to get hands on at a fun event encouraging them to eat more healthily.

The Colchester United Community Sports Trust Healthy Lunch Box programme stopped off at the school on Tuesday, using quizzes, competitions, food tasting and sandwich making to help children find out more about healthy eating.

Colchester United mascot Eddie the Eagle also stopped off at the school, keen to try out the healthy food for himself.

The idea for the programme was developed in partnership with Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Dieticians.

Natalie Blyde, Health Lead for Colchester United Community Sports Trust, said: "The sessions are really good fun and there are plenty of opportunities for the children to get involved.

"We want to help them to see that healthy food can taste great, as well as understanding the benefits a balanced diet can bring."

Matt Hudson, Colchester United Media Manager, said: "Eddie was very pleased to be invited to join the Willow Brook pupils to find out more about healthy eating.

"The children loved meeting him and we hope the event will help inspire them to be even healthier in the future."

The programme is free to schools and is funded by NHS North East Essex as part of the Colchester United Community Sports Trust Healthy Together project.
