Boss Praises Flying Start

Posted on: Tue 15 Dec 2009

U's boss Aidy Boothroyd was pleased with the resolve that his side showed in the weekend win over Brighton.

It ensured that the U's kept pace with the teams at the top of the table and further cemented their place within the vital top six places in League One.

He told the Daily Gazette: "We were absolutely fantastic in the first 25 minutes and we followed on from Bristol Rovers.

"We played some terrific football and scored twice and Kevin Lisbie hit the bar. If we'd have got a third goal, I think we would have gone on and got more.

"Their keeper made some really top saves but then we turned into Jekyll and Hyde. We lost our discipline a bit and we will have to learn from that.

"Brighton weren't going to lie down and they got stronger and stronger. They had a real go at us and we had to hang in there.

"We were camped in our own half in the last 15 minutes but we won the headers and did some fantastic defending.

"We got the win and now we have to build on that."
