A former Manchester United trainee, goalkeeper Ben has impressed since leaving Old Trafford, both for Crewe Alexandra and Carlisle United, for whom he played prior to his move to Colchester.
He made 36 appearances for Carlisle in 2008/9 and his displays between the sticks were enough to earn him a move down south.
And it proved to be a huge success - he swept the board at the club's Player of the Year awards.
