Colchester United had their best midweek crowd for a league game in 38 years on Tuesday night as they put Charlton to the sword.

The crowd of 7,098 was the U's best home crowd on a midweek game since the U's played Southend in October 1971. 

On that day, 9,807 watched Steve Leslie score the only goal as the U's entertained Southend United on a Monday evening.

The U's will be hoping for another bumper crowd on Saturday as fans flock to see a Colchester side riding high in the play-off spots as the season gets into full swing.
