U's chairman Robbie Cowling is urging the town to get behind their team for the upcoming visit of Norwich City to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The Canaries come to town on January 16th in a match that will have East Anglian pride riding on it as the two promotion contenders go head to head in a crunch clash on U's territory.

The match also has plenty of additional spice, in light of events earlier this season with the U's 7-1 win at Carrow Road and the subsequent departure of Paul Lambert and his management team to the Norfolk club.

As the U's look to complete the double over their League One rivals, the club have taken the decision not to give Norwich an additional allocation for the match.

Whilst City fans who have purchased tickets will be made very welcome at the U's award winning stadium, with the outstanding issues facing both clubs at the moment, it was felt inappropriate to offer Norwich City any more than the quantity already allocated.

Robbie told the official website: "Because of the exceptional support base that Norwich City enjoys and the size of our own regular support base it should be an easy commercial decision for me to make.

"If I extend the ticket allocation to the away supporters, I am pretty well guaranteed a sell out. However, on this rare occasion I am not prepared to do so.

"I think this is a game that everyone who follows Colchester United should attend and I am therefore prepared to risk the extra £30k in revenue on my belief that this is what will happen for this important game.

"I am sorry if this decision goes down badly with the Norwich fans, who I personally have no gripe with.

"However, the Norwich board have acted appallingly towards our club recently and I'm not sure I have ever wanted to win a game of football so badly.

"Therefore, on this occasion, I will do everything in my power to stack whatever odds I can in our favour and if that does mean an empty seat rather than an away supporter then so be it.

"Of course, a passionate Colchester United supporter would be even better."

Tickets are already selling quickly for this game and, as the game draws ever closer, more and more people are getting on board to watch the U's in action.

So this is the U's fans opportunity to really demonstrate their support for our club, in our town, in our stadium.

We want to give maximum backing to our players and Aidy's management team - this really is a game you cannot afford to miss!
