Matt returned on a permanent basis in the summer of 2008 after an impressive loan spell with the U's towards the end of the 2007/8 season .
Having been a first team regular in the first half of the campaign with Leeds United, he fell out of favour upon Gary McAllister's arrival and after settling quickly into life with the U's, the former Leicester and Coventry centre half was more than happy to return to Colchester.
He has been an integral part of life at the U's since then, with a host of managers making him a regular part of the matchday squad.
