Following extensive community, staff and stakeholder consultations, the new name for the charitable arm of Colchester United will be Colchester United Community Foundation, (CUCF).

Over the past ten years operating as Colchester United Football in the Community, the U's charitable arm has gone from strength to strength, increasing the range of projects and activities engaging with all generations of the local community year on year.

The aim is to continue this great work, and do even more, under the new Community Foundation name.

Many will already be aware of the extensive work within the local community. From Soccer Schools to Senior U’s, the organisation has touched the lives of so many over the past decades, with many previous participants now becoming staff members and valued community partners. It is just as possible that some are still not aware of the life-changing work that happens every single day.

Alongside the rebranding, a new strategy covering the next five years has been released.

The new 'Enrich Our Communities' Strategy for 2023-2028 aims to address this, and with the implementation of the strategy, hopes to address many inequalities across the region.

Over the past three months, the organisation has conducted multiple streams of research to ensure this strategy is meeting the needs of the community and those that need it most.

The development focused on three key areas to form our foundations for the next five years, using the opinions and viewpoints of our workforce, partners and communities that shape the direction and provisions for the future.

We are extremely proud to launch this five year strategy alongside the rebranding of the organisation, further aligning our objectives with the needs of the ever-evolving communities we serve.

Community Director Corin Haines said of the new strategy: “Colchester United Community Foundation’s ‘Enrich Our Communities’ Strategy 2023-2028 has been developed following detailed consultation with local, regional, and national organisations across all our pillars of work."

"We are extremely proud of the outcomes we achieved delivering on ‘Unite our Communities’ Strategy 2018-2022. We are now uniquely placed to tackle some of the key issues that our community is facing, alongside combating broader societal challenges, and supporting local and national agendas.

"Through the engagement of over 9,000 individuals on average each week, we positively impact our community by providing opportunities for people to become the best version of themselves. Ongoing partnership development is key to our strategy and together we will inspire, enrich, and unite our communities.

"We believe sport and physical activity has a huge role to play in improving physical and mental health for all, supporting the economy, reconnecting communities, and building a stronger society for all. Adopting our strategy and upgrading our approach for the times we are in, and the future we want to build is crucial.

"It gives me great pleasure to lead this organisation through its next phase and thank our network for the ongoing partnerships. We continue to be united in our endeavour to see this community flourish and we hope that our beneficiaries are inspired by the vision and path we’ve set out to guide us."
