Since restarting in late March 2022 our Senior U’s programme has engaged with over 30 people aged 60+.
Senior U’s is a free programme funded by ActiveEssex which utilises the power of social based physical activity to re-engage older people both socially and physically, after the Covid-19 lockdowns.
The sessions run on Thursday mornings between 10am-12pm, typically at Shrub End Community Sports Centre (CO2 9BG). At the sessions we do around an hour of physical exercise and an hour of socialising. However, we do go on trips out as well.
Please see the list below for trips we have been on, or are going to go on:
- Stadium Tour at the Jobserve Community Stadium.
- Cycling at the Northern Gateway track.
- Walk and talk around Abberton Reservoir.
- Tiptree Jobserve Bowls Club.
- Badminton at Colchester Leisure Centre.
We are in the process or organising more trips out!
So far, our group has took part in a range of different sports, including:
- Walking Football
- Walking Handball
- Walking Volleyball
- Walking Cricket
- Table Tennis
At Senior U’s we do a different sport every week, this is to keep the sessions fun and also encourage our participants to try new things.
In a recent programme monitoring activity we did 81% of participants agreed or strongly agreed that there physical fitness had improved over the course of the first 6 sessions.
100% of participants have said Senior U’s has improved their social lives. Highlighting the social benefits of attending the programme.
We are always looking for more members to join our programme, if you are interested then please email Edward.firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01206 755160.
